Timberwolves fire Rambis

In what is a very odd time for a coaching change, the Minnesota Timberwolves have announced that they will replace Kurt Rambis.

Rumors about Rambis being replaced have been floating around for months, but the team didn’t make any moves.

To keep Rambis on with the team until the day of the NBA Draft seems to be a bit strange if the plan was to fire him all along.

The team will begin to look for replacements immediately, with the usual suspects expected to emerge as potential candidates. ( Read More…)

Rubio to play for Timberwolves

Ricky Rubio has finally agreed to play for the Minnesota Timberwolves after holding out for two years to play overseas.

Rubio was a high draft pick of the Timberwolves but was less than pleased when he found out where he would be playing.

It’s welcome news for the Timberwolves, a franchise that has failed to make much progress despite drafting in the top five almost every year lately.

The Timberwolves are pretty set in the low post, but point guard is a different story. Rubio is a playmaker who can get the ball to the team’s primary scorers, guys like Kevin Love and Michael Beasley. ( Read More…)

Love’s streak comes to an end

Minnesota Timberwolves center Kevin Love saw his double-double streak come to an end against the Golden State Warriors.

Love was held to just six points and 12 rebounds in his team’s 100-77 loss to the host Warriors.

The center’s streak ends at an NBA record 53 straight games, but he didn’t seem to upset about it.

He said after the game that now he can just worry about playing his game and not the statistics aspect. ( Read More…)

Love sets double-double record

Minnesota Timberwolves center Kevin Love has set the NBA record for most consecutive double-doubles.

Love has been a scoring and rebounding machine for the Timberwolves ever since being drafted by the team.

He has now recorded a double-double in 52 straight games to best the mark previously held by Moses Malone.

Love said that in some ways he wishes the streak would just end, but in other ways he wants to keep it going. ( Read More…)

Timberwolves take out ad to admit failings

The Minnesota Timberwolves are deciding to go a new route with their fanbase for the upcoming season: honesty.

The club took out a full-page ad in the Minnesota Star-Tribune to explain the direction of the team to its fans.

The Timberwolves admitted that they are in rebuilding mode and won’t be competing for an NBA title this year.

The letter pointed out some of the negatives, the positives and how the team plans to get back to competing for a championship. ( Read More…)

Timberwolves acquire West

The Minnesota Timberwolves have traded guard Ramon Sessions to the Cleveland Cavaliers for guard Delonte West.

Also in the deal, the Cavaliers sent guard Sebastian Telfair to Minnesota for center Ryan Hollins and a second round pick.

The Cavaliers had enough of West’s off-the-court problems and are happy to dump that on another team.

The Timberwolves had better be careful putting West alongside Michael Beasley, also acquired via trade. ( Read More…)

Beasley finished with weed

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Michael Beasley was a big fan of weed but says those days are behind him.

General manager David Kahn said that Beasley is just a young, immature kid who liked marijuana.

He said he doesn’t think he will smoke in the future and that he is ready to put his basketball career above everything else.

Beasley is likely to need a big support system around him in Minnesota to be successful, and it’s doubtful it will be as good as the one he had in Miami. ( Read More…)

Wolves land Beasley

The Miami Heat weren’t the only team that benefitted from the signing of LeBron James in South Beach.

The Minnesota Timberwolves landed power forward Michael Beasley in a trade with the Heat.

Not only did they acquire a former No. 2 overall pick, but the Wolves gave up almost nothing to get him. ( Read More…)

Wall or Turner with No. 1 pick?

What should the Minnesota Timberwolves do if they land the NBA Draft’s No.1 overall pick? Ethan McVansen of Bleacher Report offers his opinion on the possibility.

Despite an abundance of point guards on the roster, including two drafted last year (Ricky Rubio is still in Spain, though) and free agent Ramon Sessions added as well, McVansen is convinced that the team must draft John Wall, widely considered the best talent available. The former Kentucky Wildcat who led the team to the Elite 8 and earned SEC Player of the Year and All-American honors as a freshman is an explosive athlete who is nearly unguardable off the dribble.

Still, with Evan Turner seemingly a better fit for the current roster, it at least gives Minnesota something to think about. The Ohio State star can play three positions, and his versatility is unmatched.

With Rubio appearing more and more unlikely to ever don a Timberwolves jersey, Wall is the way to go. But drafting him will certainly bring upon more criticism of the franchise. Not for picking him, but for the admission that it screwed up big-time in 2009 that the move will stand for.
